What's the difference between SIL and SDA?
SIL (Supported Independent Living) funds the support, staff helping you with daily tasks.
SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) funds the housing itself, the purpose-built home. Most participants in our homes have both types of funding.
How much does SIL/SDA accommodation cost?
SIL support is funded through your NDIS plan, so you do not pay for your support staff yourself. SDA funding covers the cost of the home itself.
Like any tenant, you pay a reasonable rent contribution to the SDA provider: generally 25% of the Disability Support Pension base rate, plus any Commonwealth Rent Assistance you receive. You also cover everyday living costs such as food, utilities, phone and personal items. The exact amount depends on your income and plan, so our team can walk you through your figures.
Am I eligible for SIL or SDA?
SIL is for participants who need help with daily tasks for a large part of the day and would benefit from living in a shared, supported home. SDA is for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, and the NDIA decides both eligibility and which SDA design category you can access.
A functional capacity assessment from an occupational therapist is usually needed as part of the request. Your support coordinator or LAC can help start this, and we are happy to talk it through with you.
How long does it take to get a place in one of your homes?
It mostly depends on your NDIS funding. If SIL and/or SDA funding is already approved in your plan and we have a suitable vacancy, moving in can happen within 2 weeks.
If your plan does not include SIL or SDA yet, you will first need a plan reassessment and SDA eligibility decision from the NDIA, which can take longer. Our team can work with you and your support coordinator to get the paperwork ready while that happens.
Where are your SIL/SDA homes located?
We currently have homes in Rooty Hill, Leumeah, and Oran Park, all in Western Sydney.
Our Rooty Hill home is about a 4 minute drive from Westfield Mount Druitt and a 3 minute drive from Mount Druitt Hospital, with parks and local shops nearby.
